A delegation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) visited the cricket ground at Pokhara Stadium today for an inspection. The visit aimed to evaluate the venue’s suitability for hosting the 2027 U19 Women’s World Cup.
The ICC team, accompanied by the President of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), Chatur Bahadur Chand, included ICC Senior Manager Rohit Podar and Asia Region Development Manager Mohammad Emanul Islam.
According to Sanjay Kant Sigdel, President of the Gandaki Provincial Cricket Association, the ICC team sought a commitment from the government to build the necessary infrastructure to host such a prestigious event. Sigdel stated, “While Pokhara is deemed suitable for the Women’s World Cup, the representatives emphasized the need for essential infrastructure development. They indicated that hosting the World Cup would be possible if these requirements are met.”
Later in the day, the ICC team met with Gandaki Province’s Minister of Social Development, Youth, and Sports, Bindu Kumar Thapa. The minister expressed the province’s eagerness to host the World Cup and assured the ICC of the government’s full support.
Dhanraj Acharya, the Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City, also affirmed his commitment to fulfilling the required responsibilities on behalf of the city. Mayor Acharya requested ICC representatives to provide details about the necessary infrastructure for hosting the World Cup.
In a related development, the Pokhara Avengers team of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) handed over a player dugout to the Kaski District Cricket Association. The Avengers, who have adopted the Pokhara Cricket Ground as their home venue, made the contribution to enhance the facility.
